UPDATE: Aerodynamic Engineering at its Finest

On January 28, I posted about my sons’ upcoming Cub Scouts Pinewood Derby. I wanted to post an update with the outcome of that derby which occurred this past Sunday, February 12.

The afternoon started off with the official weigh-in and registration. As planned the weights of our cars came in just a hair under the 5-ounce maximum weight limit. Then we had to wait for another hour and a half until everyone else had weighed in, added weight, weighed again, and so on. The field of cars numbered somewhere between 15 and 20.

The races were ran. All the cub scouts were good sports and seemed to have a lot of fun. My oldest son’s car appeared to be a winner from the start, but somehow he managed to miss the top standings. I’m still wondering how that happened…maybe the bracket got screwed up. Whatever the reason, the car was good, and he and I were proud of it.

After the main race, the siblings’ and parents’ cars got to race. My younger son’s car fared pretty well. It placed 4th out of 7. When I asked him if he had fun, he said, “No.” But that’s just the way he is sometimes.  🙂

So, there’s no more pinewood derby car racing for this family this year. Oh well. Better luck next year.
